About Christopher Bishop
Christopher Bishop has established himself as a leading specialist in Old Master Drawings, earning a reputation for remarkable discoveries over the past decade. With a deep understanding of historical materials and artistic styles, he has uncovered numerous overlooked masterpieces in auction houses and private collections across Europe and America. His expertise stems from years of study at Yale and the University of Chicago, combined with hands-on experience in the field.
Among his most notable finds is Aurora, a 17th-century painting by Italian Baroque master Guercino, which Bishop identified in 2012 and later reunited with its preparatory drawing—bringing the two together for the first time in over 350 years. This discovery became the centerpiece of the inaugural exhibition at his New York gallery in 2019.
Throughout his career, Bishop has made significant contributions to art scholarship, identifying and placing works by artists such as Pierre Monier, Federico Barocci, Paolo Farinati, and Alessandro Algardi in major museum and private collections, including the Louvre, the Yale University Art Gallery, and the Frick Collection. In 2018, he published a major monograph on Jacopo Pontormo and his drawings for the Villa Castello.
Now based on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Christopher Bishop Fine Art continues to offer museum-quality Old Master Drawings, driven by a passion for rediscovering lost works and uncovering the stories behind them. 1046 Madison Avenue, Suite 2n
